Driven by plastic restriction rules and green consumption trends, Brazilian restaurants’ demand for corn starch disposable tableware keeps rising. In 2025, the total purchase volume reached 280 million pieces, up 32% year-on-year. Demand is predicted to hit 380 million pieces in 2026, with fast food outlets being the biggest buyers. Disposable boxes, plates, cutlery and cups are widely used across local diners, and market demand will maintain fast growth in the next few years.

Demand for corn starch disposable tableware from restaurants all over Brazil has grown rapidly in recent years, boosted by nationwide plastic ban regulations and rising environmental awareness among local consumers.

Latest statistics released by the Brazilian Association of Catering and Food Service (ABRAF) show that Brazilian restaurants consumed 280 million units of corn starch disposable tableware throughout 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 32%. Industry analysts deliver an optimistic forecast that the total market demand will exceed 380 million pieces in 2026, sustaining a strong annual growth rate of around 35%.

Fast food chains and quick-service restaurants are the largest purchasers, accounting for nearly half of the total consumption volume. Mid-range casual restaurants, beachside food shops and street food stalls follow closely as major buyers. Catering businesses mainly stock a full range of corn starch tableware, including takeaway clamshell boxes, dinner plates, soup bowls, disposable cutlery and beverage cups. These fully compostable tableware items comply with national food safety standards and can decompose completely without harmful residues.

Local restaurant operators stated that switching to corn starch disposable tableware is not only a mandatory requirement under Brazil’s single-use plastic ban, but also an effective way to attract eco-conscious diners. Survey data proves most Brazilian customers prefer dining venues that adopt biodegradable tableware.

Market researchers predict that the demand for corn starch tableware in Brazil’s catering sector will keep expanding steadily over the next five years, with more small and medium-sized eateries planning to phase out traditional plastic tableware completely.
